Over time your bone resorbs and tissue changes. If your dentures are loose and you have had them for about 2 years that means, it’s time for a Reline/Rebase.
Yes, but not for everyone. There are two types, depending on your situation, partial dentures can be made without a frame. Its either a thermo flex partial made with flexible material or an acrylic partial made with hard acrylic. Please book a complimentary consultation to see if you would be a candidate for either one.
It is recommended dentures be replaced every 5-7 years.
After years of daily use, you may feel that your dentures may not fit well as they used to as they lose their grip in your mouth. This is a sign that it is time to visit your nearest denture clinic for a denture reline/rebase. During the process, we will provide you with a fitting for proper dentures without replacing them entirely. The procedure involves reshaping the underside of a denture, ensuring that it fits with your gums more comfortably. Reline/rebases are required every 2 years.
After you have dentures made by us, we will put you on a recall list. Our office will call you after 2 years to have you come in for a FREE check-up to see whether or not you need a reline/rebase. We will also call you after 5 years to advise you it’s time for new dentures. Poor fitting dentures can lead to bite problems, trouble speaking, tissue irritations. Jaw pain, headaches, ringing in the ears, digestion issues & bloating.
Yes, dentures can be made to work with your implants. We will make the dentures and add in implant parts so that your new denture can be worn with your implants. This is called an implant supported denture.
It is common belief that just because a person does not have all of their natural teeth, they do no need to go for regular check-ups. On the contrary, it is essential that denture wearers visit their denturist every so often as dentures are foreign objects that sit in the mouth. Dentures can be packed with bacteria as they are porous and can cause mouth irritation and diseases. Also, having an ill-fitted denture can cause chronic sores and hyperplasia which is the growth of fibrous connective tissue in the mouth that is caused by constant irritation from dentures. By visiting your denturist on a regular basis and maintain a good oral health you will be ensuring your general well-being and quality of life. Your denturist will also track your bone loss and general oral health to ensure maximum denture functionality and the healthiness of your mouth.
It is very normal to get some sore areas or pressure spots after getting a new denture. The reason behind it is because your mouth was used to your old dentures and it is trying to accommodate the new denture in. Once you have worn your new dentures for a while, your oral tissue will mould into them and every day it will feel more comfortable. Another reason why you may feel pain is because there is soft tissue covering the ridges. Pressure on this soft tissue by the dentures can cause irritation and sores. It is extremely important that you do not switch back to your old dentures as it would make the adjustment period longer. To aid in the adjusting period, we recommended practicing your speech by reading out loud, transition from smaller and softer pieces of food to bigger and harder pieces of food, to wear the new dentures as much as possible and to visit your denturist to adjust them if necessary.
If you wear dentures, you shouldn’t adjust your dentures on your own as dentures are precise prosthesis. By adjusting it on your own, you may be doing more damage than good. You will lose the warranty on dentures. We recommend contacting your denturist as they are the best professional to modify your dentures.
Dentures are prosthetic appliances and just like a pair of eye glasses, they must be changed regularly. The mouth is in constant change and it is recommended replacing dentures every 5-7 years as the teeth on the denture become worn and the jaw bone resorption makes the dentures loose; making it harder for people to eat and speak. By replacing your denture you are not only improving your smile but also improving your overall health.
If you are in constant battle with dentures, having difficulty eating foods like steak, apples and corn-on-the-cob, if you are tired of your dentures moving, there are other alternatives to replace missing teeth such as an Implant Supported Dentures.
